Shameful chauvinism as a result of inability to go beyond stereotypes
Previously we wrote about desecration of a Ukrainian flag by pro-Kremlin Polish “NWP” during Marsz Niepodległości-2016 in Poland, which was decisively punished by Polish nationalists themselves. However, we are consistent in our determination to fight against chauvinism and develop a genuine European solidarity and, to say the very least, condemn similar actions of Ukrainian football fans with regard to a Serbian national flag, even if they were caused by mere stupidity.
Nov. 15, during the march between Ukraine and Serbia, in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv took place a very unfortunate incident: Ukrainian fans desecrated Serbian national symbols. The incident happened as a result of the projection of Ukrainian-Serbian relations on the current conflict between Ukraine and Russia. It’s no secret that there is a high level of sympathy for Russia among the Serbs. It naturally leads to anti-Serbian sentiments in Ukraine. The fact that there are nationalists in Serbia who have no illusions about Putin’s Russia and sympathize with Ukraine remains a little known fact among Ukrainians.
Presumably, the actions of Ukrainian fans were a response to cases of hanging by the Serbs the flags of neo-Bolshevik forces established by Russian occupiers in eastern Ukraine. No matter what, even in the case of direct hostility desecration of national symbols is unacceptable. As for the relationship between right-wing forces of Ukraine and Serbia, the conflict between them is inappropriate. We can say that today is meaningless even the confrontation between Serbs and Croats (though mutual hostility will poison the life of both peoples for a long time). Serbs and Croats should realize that their enemy is not in Zagreb or Belgrade but in Brussels (as a center of the bureaucracy that is destroying European nations), Washington (the capital of not so much Americans as a global hegemony of liberalism), Moscow (pseudo-Messiah pursuing its own pragmatic imperial interests). Under such conditions fostering hatred between Serbs and Ukrainians is utter stupidity.
Today the nationalist forces of various European nations must show maximum unity and consolidation. Hopefully, the chauvinistic incidents among Ukrainians and Serbs will significantly decrease, and we are ready to take respective measures. The path to the European Reconquista lies through discarding harmful stereotypes. Monument “Braterstvo” (eng. Brotherhood) erected in 2003 in the center of the Ukrainian village of Slavyanoserbsk (the Slavo-Serbia) nearby the building of the district local history museum in honor of the 250th anniversary of its foundation.
